David A. Materna, Partner, Taurus Jacksonville, is responsible for the student housing platform. As former President and CEO of The Paradigm Group, Materna was responsible for the operations of the Paradigm Properties Management Team and Paradigm Enterprises of Gainesville. He has more than 28 years of real estate investment banking experience. Prior to joining Paradigm, Materna was Director of Real Estate Capital Markets at Bank of Boston. There, he structured and arranged transactions totaling in excess of $1 billion, including the largest private placement real estate transaction in the bank's history. Materna is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, with BS and MS degrees in Aeronautical Engineering; he also holds an MBA in Real Estate. Materna is a former naval aviator and a Vietnam veteran. He is a licensed California real estate broker and a licensed Florida mortgage broker. He is on the board of the National Multi-Housing Council, and the advisory boards for the U.F. Center for Real Estate Studies and the MultiFamily Executive Leadership Council. Materna is also a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. He is constantly sought after by industry organizations, civic organizations and the University of Florida as a guest speaker on real estate development, financing, and capital markets.
